RELATIONSHIP WITH TEAM JAM

Two years ago, TEAM JAM assisted Hockey Ministries International in establishing a Christian Hockey Camp and youth hockey chapels in Cleveland.  Patty and Ed Cepis were the key individuals behind bringing them both to Cleveland.

Their son, Jacob has been actively involved at the camps and the Hockey chapels  the last two years.  It was also about two years ago, when Jake asked Christ to be his Savior while at home one night, thanks to mom explaining to him how. Still, this didn't mean that things have been smooth sailing ever since.

The chapels and additional conversations with John Saucier just happened to come at a frustrating time in his career.  It was a time where his coach didn't even want to put him on the ice, because of his size . . .though he acknowledged his talent.   John and Jake talked throughout the season to try to determine  why this was happening, how to keep his confidence,  and what God was trying to teach him.

The conclusion was made to use the disappointment as an opportunity to talk to God more, believe in the ability God had given Him and trust God's timing.  it wasn't long before,  in an unbelieveable turn of events, Jake played in a mid season tournament and exploded with a multi goal game, followed by several more games with a goal.

He hasn't stopped since.

JACOB CEPIS
BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY
FRESHMAN
#13

AND NOW ITS ON TO  COLLEGE !
Cepis begins his College career at Bowling Green

After two stellar seasons in the USHL for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Jake will be playing for the Bowling Green State Falcons.  This high scoring forward has shocked each league and tryout he has played in with his speed, skill and scoring ability.

CEPIS NAMED 1ST TEAM
ALL-USHL (2006-07)

Jake Cepis capped off an eye opening season  by being named to the All-USHL 1st team.  These honors recognized a season in which he was named to the All-Star team, led the league in goals and finished third in scoring overall.  Jake was near the top or leading the league in scoring all season.  He was known for making his points count when they mattered the most, tallyng four game winning goals, scoring 8 points in six playoff games and having a +18 rating during the regular season.

CEPIS SCORES 1st GOAL!!
2005-06

In only the third game of his USHL career, Jake scored his first goal.  In their 4-1 win over Green Bay, the defending Clark Cup Champion, Cepis found an opening in the net with the score tied at 1-1 in the second period.  The lead held.  Cepis' timing was not only excellent for the win but because it was the home opener in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,000 - which included his father Ed who had driven out for the weekend series of games.

Even MORE clutch was the fact that pops celebrated his birthday on Wednesday of this past week.  We won't say which birthday it was - but it WAS a milestone birthday.

CEPIS LEAVES BARONS!!!
HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR DRAFTED BY CEDAR RAPIDS OF THE UNITED STATES HOCKEY LEAGUE

Season opened Sept. 24th, 2005

The tough decision was made this summer to accept the offer to move to Cedar Rapids and leave the Cleveland Jr. Barons who have been like family to Jake his entire life.  In spite, of a successful season with the Barons, and the advantages of being at home, Jake's prayers led him to believe that God had provided this opportunity for a reason, especially since he did not pursue it.  He was willing to step out on his own and trust God to lead him through it.

CEPIS COMMITS TO BOWLING GREEN STATE U. (July, 2004)

Though only entering his junior season, the highly sought after Cleveland Junior Baron and Parma High School student has already ended the chase.   After his impressive performance at the National Select tryouts in July (in Minnesota), Cepis heard quite a bit from Michigan, Princeton, Yale, and Western Michigan.  However, after his visit to Bowling Green, the 16 year old new almost immediately knew that was where he wanted to be.

"After talking to Coach Polluch, he said that there would be a great opportunity for me to get a lot of ice time as a freshman.  He thought I would be an impact player as soon as I started playing there.  He didn't care if I grew bigger or not, it made no difference to him as to whether he would want me or not.  He evaluated me as being good enough now.  Those are the words I wanted to hear."

"So many people say, 'If you were this' and 'If you were that' and it was nice to have someone that I respect evaluate my skills and play objectively."

Cepis also liked Bowling Green's campus, size, location within driving distance for family to see his games, and their hockey tradition.  Bowling Green has won two NCAA National Championships and have sent quite a few of their players into the NHL, including fellow Parma product, Brian Holzinger.

MINISTRY 2004-2005

Summer 2005
Jake was involved in our annual TEAM JAM Hockey Camp as a camp counselor and an on-ice instructor

Summer 2004
Jacob joined a few of his hockey teammates and a number of other TEAM JAM athletes to talk about his relationship with God to over 700 elementary aged youth at Beulah Beach.

John Saucier, Jake and
Alex Norman

Just a couple of weeks earlier, he was working as on-ice staff for Hockey Ministry International's Hockey Camp that TEAM JAM hosted at the Cleveland Barons rink.  Combine those events with his performance in the classroom and you can see that it has been a banner season for Cepis in all facets of his life.

Throughout the 2002-03, and the 03-04 seasons, Jake was the key figure behind our hockey chapels that were held bi-weekly.  Our chapels averaged 10 in attendance and became the reason why a large number of teammates came to know Christ as their Savior.
