I
was playing baseball at a junior college in California when I
met my future wife, Genis, who was a great Christian girl.
She didn’t talk about God too much until after we
dated quite a while, but I could tell she was really close to
Him. Eventually, she told me that I too needed to find out
more about Christ.
Later,
after I was in the minor leagues with the Indians (in 98) I
started to go to some Bible studies that one of my teammates
(Tim Drew) invited me to and where I met other Christians like
Chan Perry and Travis Fryman.
While I was at the studies they challenged me to read
the gospels. Over
a two-week period of time I read those four books and prayed
to God every night. Finally
one night, I asked Christ to be my Savior because I believed
in Him and was ready to make a change.
When I called Genis, she couldn’t believe how her
prayers had been answered.
Because
I accepted Christ, it completely changed how I entered
marriage and the potential for success our marriage now has.
Before I knew Christ, baseball was everything. It
completely controlled who I hung with and whether I would be
happy or not. I
definitely could not have handled athletic disappointment
without Christ. But now, because of all that God has given me, I can enjoy
the blessings he gives me, like my family, my opportunity in
professional sports, and my life with God.
I just can’t understand how anyone, especially me,
could live without Him.
If
you would like help in praying that same prayer that changed
my life, please write me at
jonhamilton@teamjam.org.
It’s the best gift I could share with anyone.

THE TEAM JAM
CONNECTION During the 2000 baseball season, Tim Drew introduced John Saucier
to Jon and Genis Hamilton while Tim and Jon were both playing for
the Akron Aeros. Through several visits to ballgames as well
as after game Bible Studies, a friendship was formed. Since
that time, visits Jon has helped TEAM JAM with events, visits with
our young athletes after games and various meetings. As Jon
continues to grow in his relationship with God, so does his desire
to be involved in TEAM JAM's outreach. Though they make
their home on the west coast, this has been an asset to the
ministry in our efforts to minister far from Ohio. |
