He is now turning 21 (Dec. 30, 2005). He's been named 2nd team All-NBA, led his team to within one game of the playoffs, stayed out of any trouble, and is finding the media, community and his team demanding him to be the new leader of the Cavs.
God has been gracious to provide blessing and success and honor, on and off the court. He has been complimented in the media over and over again. He has met almost all the unreasonable challenges set before him. So now the basketball, Cleveland Cav, and local community is asking for more, they want him to become an even more verbal leader.
This is always how a highly visible figure is "set up" before the fall. Your pride gets you to think you are as wonderful as you hear, and you try hard to meet all the crazy requests - then you let your guard down out of weariness - and in just a moment, the mistake is made. That's all it takes. We can NEVER let our guard down in the world around us - and especially in regard to the evil that Satan is eager to send our way.
That is why we would like you to be, or continue to be, a part of LeBron's prayer team. God has greater plans for LeBron than what most adults have defined as "success". He has tremendous expectations for him during a time in his life when most young adults make mostly POOR decisions that scar them for life. How much more difficult is HIS situation than the typical college-age individual. Yet everyone keeps asking for more because it is obvious that he is special.
Remember, the higher the pedestal, the greater the chance to fall. In America, we love to sensationalize the "fun" there is with fame and fortune, but slam the people that experiment with it. We talk about how great it would be to have access to all that opportunity to sin, but expect the "role model" to resist it - even if we would have no desire to be disciplined if we were in their shoes. The expectations of LeBron are both RIGHT and RIDICULOUS. He needs our support to withstand the challenges in a godly way.
He's not just a name in the spotlight. He is a young man that we support, believe in and will continue to invest in to help him fulfill God's plan for his life. Instead of finding an error in his ways, join us in protecting him with consistent prayer.
If you are interested in being a part of this prayer team and seeing God respond to our joint efforts, just write a prayer on behalf of LeBron (or others) and send it to us on a weekly basis at johnsaucier@teamjam.org If you would like to know how YOU can have a personal relationship with Christ as your Savior - like LeBron did in high school, click here.
