FLASHBACK
Three
years ago
we were all wondering just how good this kid would be. Do
you remember how his rookie season started? Below is a story
we wrote after the first two games, just in case . . .
OPENING
NIGHT VS. SACRAMENTO (2003)
He
sure looked like an NBA point guard on opening night!!! That
first quarter was ridiculous. By the time I got done
struggling with my videotape, he had already hit the first shot he
took in his NBA career, hit that insane fadeaway from the corner
that he used to practice back at ST.V, and was well into a blazing
first quarter.
He
hit his first three shots (all jumpers, including that fadeaway)
had a couple of beautiful assists early - including an alley to
Ricky D. - and had a typical explosive spurt midway through the
first that fed enough highlights to overload ESPN tonight. A
shot, a steal and a monster one handed dunk, a tip and breakaway -
only to pull up and sacrifice his own points to give trailer Ricky
a freebie dunk and the Kings were calling a T.O. By
quarter's end he had 10 pts and 3 assists while the Cavs were down
5.
Final
totals: 25 pts, 6 rebs., 9 assists, 4 steals
AND
GAME TWO ? vs. PHOENIX
First
game was luck or a fluke . . . right?
Then why was the second game
like this? Most fans forget this one !
Final
totals: 21 pts, 12 rebs. 8 assists.
