THE TAYDEN
STOCKMAN BALLIN' FOR BLINDNESS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
AUGUST
4TH-5TH, 2007
MEDINA, OHIO

PERSONAL STORY
Basketball has dominated my life. My father, older
brother Adrian (Winthrop University), and even my
sisters were all great players. At Medina HS (in
Ohio), I was the all-time leading scorer and Ohio’s
Mr. Basketball. I went on to play for both Clemson and
Ohio State.
But happiness from
success never lasts. At Clemson (frosh yr) we
defeated #1 North Carolina when I had 16 points and
hit the game winner, but the thrill didn’t last.
Again, against N.C. I was 8-10 from 3 point and had 28
pts at halftime. Later, with Ohio State, we beat #1
Illinois (2005) in the last game to ruin their
undefeated season. But I kept finding myself talking
with teammates after games about how the euphoria had
already worn off.
After the Illinois
upset in particular, I “celebrated” by working on a
term paper and then running to the hospital to see my
newborn son in intensive care. That REALLY put life
into perspective. I was watching ESPN highlights from
the hospital room. With those real life
circumstances, athletic success couldn’t even be
enjoyed.
Accomplishments left me
with a roller coaster experience of emptiness or
loneliness even after my best experiences.
In high school, my
brother Adrian and John Saucier (TEAM JAM) helped me
pray to receive Christ as my Savior, but I didn’t
really take advantage of it. Eventually, God really
changed my life when my uncle gave me a book, before I
headed overseas as a pro, called “The Case for
Christmas” (Lee Stroebel). By learning more about
Christ, I finally comprehended what He is all about.
My life continues to get better as I read the Bible
and pray and I don’t have that empty feeling anymore.
That’s why my goal is to help young people and
athletes to develop their lives and benefit from
Christ just like I have.

ROOKIE YEAR A SUCCESS!!
Tony's first year overseas was a tremendous
success as he led his team (Nantes) in scoring
all season. As he has got more comfortable
with his teammates and the league, his shooting and
scoring continuously improved. He averaged
over 17 points per game and shot more than 40% from
the field. Overall, he was seventh in the
entire "B" league in scoring at 17.62.
Interestingly, fellow TEAM JAM athlete, Pierre
Wooten (Winthrop U. / Saint Quentin) was third in the
league at 19.62. Pierre played with Tony's
brother Adrian and
Greg Lewis.
